Iknitarod fingerless gloves 2014

In 2014 I tackled some long fingerless gloves for my Iknitarod project.  I completed the first one during the race.

Like my other Iknitarod projects, I used the iditarod colorway from raven frog fibers.

And I completed the second one in Washington just before a sailing trip.

Blue Ribbon Hat

Made with yarn from my stash for my man.  I added the ribbon to give it some character and lined the ear band with windproof fleece.  He loves it and says he can't wait for it to get colder.

Red Honeycomb Cowl

Deliciously soft and a joy to knit and wear.  I started and finished this in 2012 with yarn I bought on a work trip (with Leigh) to Portland.  We walked down to Happy Knits after a day of long meetings.  I have enough leftover to do a hat, just have to add it to my list.

Zebra tutu

Because why not?  My theme for races this year is zebras.  Last year was flamingos.  This one has a stretchy sparkley outer layer and two layers of tulle.  I basted and gathered the layers together and then hand stitched on to the elastic for the waist.

Variegated Owl Hat

...with button eyes...I lined the earband with windstop fleece...maybe I make a second one for me with the leftover yarn...

Another Pink Tutu

I've been really slow getting Christmas out the door this year.  I failed to get a picture of the other gifts I sent to my sister, but maybe she will take some and send to me......

I made this bright pink tutu for my youngest niece, who is still in pink tutu phase.  She may never actually exit that phase.  This one has two folded layers (for a total of four layers) of tulle, which created a nice pocket suitable for filling with pom poms.  There are small white ones and slightly larger metallic shiney pastel ones.  I actually went back to the store and doubled the amount once I had them in there.  I hear that she wanted more and wanted to be able to remove them to play with them.  The waist is elasticized and encased in matching satin ribbon.  A very fun piece to create.

Iknitarod Hat

Last year this was my iknitarod project.  A hat seemed like a very reasonable project to try to complete when graduation was scheduled for the end of April.

I love the seed stitch band at the bottom and the big fat soft cables.  Very warm and cozy.  And a quick knit.

I used a silk blend from my Raven Frog Fibers collection of iditarod yarn I bought a couple years ago.  It was heavenly to work with and the pattern was a quick find on ravelry.

The official race restart was yesterday in Willow.  And since I'm not busy skiing, I will be casting on a new project with another iditarod yarn tonight.  Stay tuned!  And hopefully I won't have any broken bones to model this year.

Spun creamsicle

I spent a bit of time with my aunt over the Thanksgiving holiday last year re-learning how to spin with a drop spindle.  She had this lovely roving that looked just like an orange creamsicle, my mom's favorite.  I spun every day for weeks when I got home, finishing off the creamsicle roving and then moving on to some other fibres and spindles I had packed up in a crate.  And that's really when much of what my aunt was teaching me came together.  I can totally spin on a drop spindle now....if it's the same fibre and spindle as the creamsicle experience.  Otherwise, I'm a little screwed.  I am currently on a brief pause so I can finish up some other projects.  No, they totally are not really overdue Christmas presents....they are ...valentine's day presents, yeah, that's it!
